The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything

Overcome Self Doubt

We’ve all had moments when self-doubt creeps in. Perhaps you’ve thought, “I’m not good enough,” and felt the weight of that belief holding you back. At other times, you might have thought, “I want to improve,” and felt energized by the possibilities ahead.

These two perspectives may seem subtle in their differences, but they are worlds apart in how they influence your mindset, energy, and future.

The Power of Mindset: Judgment vs. Opportunity

The thought “I’m not good enough” is rooted in judgment. It reflects a fixed mindset, often driven by fear, shame, or a sense of inadequacy. This belief triggers the brain’s stress response, activating the amygdala and reinforcing a negative feedback loop. Over time, this can lead to procrastination, avoidance, or burnout.

On the other hand, “I want to improve” embodies a mastery mindset. It acknowledges where you are while focusing on where you want to go. Neuroscience shows that this kind of positive self-talk engages the prefrontal cortex, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and motivation.

In short, one thought depletes your energy, while the other fuels it.

Awareness Through the Energy Leadership Index (ELI)

So how do you move from “not enough” to “improve”? It starts with awareness.

The Energy Leadership Index (ELI) assessment is a powerful tool I use in my coaching programs to help clients uncover their default reactions to stress. This unique assessment measures your energy levels across seven perspectives, ranging from catabolic (draining) to anabolic (energizing).

When you face challenges, do you default to self-criticism and fear? Or do you approach them with curiosity and optimism? The ELI shines a light on these patterns, helping you understand not only how you show up under stress but also how you can shift to more empowering levels of energy.

For example:

  • If “I’m not good enough” resonates with you, your energy may be dominated by Level 1 (victim mentality) or Level 2 (conflict-driven thinking).

  • If “I want to improve” feels more aligned, you’re likely accessing higher levels of energy, such as Level 5 (opportunity-focused) or Level 6 (intuitive).

This awareness is transformative because you can’t change what you don’t recognize.

Practical Steps to Shift Your Mindset

If you’ve realized that thoughts of “not being good enough” are holding you back, here are a few strategies to help you shift:

  1. Reframe the Narrative
When negative thoughts arise, ask yourself, “What’s the opportunity here?” Shifting focus from inadequacy to growth opens the door to possibility.

  2. Practice Self-Compassion
Replace judgment with kindness. Instead of saying, “I failed because I’m not capable,” try, “This setback is an opportunity to learn and grow.”

  3. Visualize Success
Spend time imagining yourself achieving your goals. This mental rehearsal strengthens neural pathways and builds confidence.

  4. Focus on the Process
Growth isn’t about instant perfection; it’s about incremental improvement. Celebrate small wins to reinforce progress and build momentum.

Coaching: The Key to Sustainable Change

While self-awareness and practical tools are essential, real transformation often requires support. That’s where coaching comes in.

In my coaching programs, I combine the insights of the ELI assessment with proven strategies to help my clients:

  • Break free from limiting beliefs.

  • Reduce stress by managing the six influencers of energy.

  • Cultivate empowering perspectives that fuel personal and professional success.

One of the most common breakthroughs my clients experience is learning to shift from self-judgment to self-leadership, reclaiming their energy and optimism in the process.
