Reflections On My Coaching Journey – The First 365 Days
This past weekend marks one-year from when I started my formal coaching journey with iPEC (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching) As I reflect on this past year, feelings of appreciation and gratitude fill my heart. The encouragement and support I received from family, friends, and the iPEC trainers and classmates, was and continues to be amazing. I have grown immensely during this year and a lot of the reason was the coaching school I picked. iPEC’s coach training program is robust and includes over 300 hours of training, enough to meet the requirements for the ICF’s MCC credential. The skills and training I received were top notch, but the transformation that impacted me the most was my personal transformation. iPEC taught me how to BECOME a coach and not just to “do coaching”. As a result, I have more awareness of who I am and how I show up in the world. Because of this awareness I have made conscious choices to approach situations differently, and the results have been extraordinary. Some examples include.
1. Effectively having difficult conversations with a family member.
2. Understanding and then consciously changing some long-held beliefs that we not serving me, which resulted in less fear and more progress towards my goals.
3. Embracing my own authenticity and allowing myself to be vulnerable has enabled me to connect with people in a more effective way.
4. Most importantly, all these changes add up to more happiness and fulfillment in everything I do.
Learning to become a core energy coach was one of the best things I have ever done, and I know first-hand just how powerful and effective coaching can be in helping you reach your goals.
One of my favorite iPEC foundation principles is “Faith is more powerful than proof”. This is not based on religion, but rather believing that everything will work out. With this belief, it gives you the strength to act when the outcome is still unclear. Knowing that after you take the first step, you will learn and have more information available to choose what your second step will be. If uncertainty is paralyzing you, imagine what it would feel like to truly believe everything will work out.
Walking away from a 30-year tax career to pursue coaching was filled with uncertainty. Looking forward I still have uncertainty, but I am acting everyday towards accomplishing my dreams. (Did I mention this is one of the best things I have ever done and that I am happier and more fulfilled?)
What’s it costing you to not act on your goals and dreams?
